Retail Frankfurt

Commercial retail space for womens and menswear

Store Design Concept — Ewa Giers
Architecture — A & O Architekten

This retail project for Closed in Frankfurt am Main is defined by architectural order, material contrast, and a clear spatial structure across three levels.

The store unfolds over a basement, ground floor, and a partially open first floor. The main architectural challenge was to translate this vertical complexity into a coherent and legible spatial experience. A custom timber framework became the key structural element, defining sightlines, framing the half-open upper level, and creating a consistent architectural rhythm throughout the space.

The material concept combines natural materials such as wood and stone with cooler elements like aluminium and mineral surfaces. This contrast reflects Frankfurt’s character, balancing the city’s financial and architectural intensity with more traditional, crafted references.

Custom-made, hand-carved wooden objects are integrated as sculptural elements across the different levels, adding an artistic layer while reinforcing the overall architectural concept. The result is a composed, material-driven retail environment where structure, proportion, and clarity guide the spatial experience.
